Purrsday Poetry: Helmets

It was a tragic day once we went to battle:
The pugs wore cantaloupes, while we, alas,
Wore ugli fruit: such hardships got here to move
That whiskers drooped — a factor all of us abhor.
Every canine was monstrous as a minotaur.
Our battle lasted lengthy. The mob, en masse,
All rolled in fluffy fathoms, a morass
Of dirty fur, … and Persians filth abhor.
I by no means thought that this is able to come to move:
That my brilliant white and tufted ears would mourn
Extra listless than a Scottish Fold cat’s does;
Or that such hatred slowly would amass.
I lengthy for peace: when days weren’t forlorn:
When peaceable pets serenely licked their fuzz.
